A Bird trip to southern Gotland. Stay in medieval Visby.Storsudret and the Sundre bird observatory
Southern Gotland offers several interesting sites and in this tour we have good opportunities to see species as Barnacle Goose, Northern Pintail, Garganey, Pied Avocet, Ruff, Caspian Tern, Collared Flycatcher and Bearded Reedling. We will visit Sundre bird observatory and receive insight in the daily work. Here are normally passerines caught and ringed, and the key species are Lesser Whitethroat, Common Whitethroat and Willow Warbler - sometimes even Barred Warbler which has had a decline in breeding status in the area lately.
We will see the catching nets and see how the ringing procedure is done. Note that we during our stay must let the staff at the observatory work undisturbed if it is a morning with high activity (a busy rate) in the nets. The birds must not be stressed from abnormally long time of handling during the procedure.
The accomodation
You stay in "Svanen" certificated hotel S:t Clemens inside Visby city walls, in the midst of the UNESCO world heritage. The hotel has a cozy and family like atmosphere and has the medieval ruin of S:t Clemens in the hotel garden. On Sunday you can roam the streets of Visby before your ferry or flight departure.
